Meet Laurence

Laurence, our Director and Principal Stylist, is the co-founder and driving force behind Radical Hair, a true pillar of the Radical Hair Community and our much-loved work-dad and resident jokester. With over four decades in the hairdressing industry, his career has been built on connection, craftsmanship and a genuine love of people. Laurence began his journey at just sixteen as a salon assistant, starting his formal apprenticeship the following year, already knowing that hairdressing was the perfect blend of creativity and human connection. That early instinct has shaped the way he works to this day.

From the beginning, what drew Laurence to hairdressing wasn’t just the technical side, it was the opportunity to work closely with people, build relationships and make someone’s day better through conversation and care. He is naturally people-focused, and that shows in every appointment. Clients often say a visit with Laurence feels as much like catching up with an old friend as it does a hair service. He brings warmth, humour and ease to the salon floor, creating an environment where clients feel relaxed and welcome.

Known affectionately as the bossman of the salon, Laurence leads with personality and presence. He keeps the energy light and the culture grounded, and it’s rare for a regular client to leave his chair without hearing at least one (famously terrible) dad joke. His humour has become part of his signature experience, a small but memorable detail that clients genuinely look forward to. Behind the jokes, though, is a deeply experienced professional with sharp technical instincts and strong foundational skills.

Laurence is particularly known for his men’s cutting work, where precision, structure and suitability are key. His men’s haircuts are clean, balanced and tailored, designed to grow out well and suit each client’s features, hair type and routine. He also has long-standing expertise in perming and texture services, developed over decades of hands-on practice and continued refinement. His approach to texture is thoughtful and controlled, producing results that feel modern, wearable and well-structured rather than dated or overdone.

With more than 45 years behind the chair, Laurence has built an exceptionally loyal regular clientele. Many of his clients have been visiting for years, even decades, a testament to the trust, consistency and personal connection he brings to his work. He values reliability and long-term relationships, and he approaches each appointment with the same level of care, whether it’s a first-time guest or someone he has seen for years.

As a co-founder of Radical Hair, Laurence has helped shape not only the business but the culture behind it. He believes a salon should feel like a community, welcoming, supportive and human, and that philosophy is woven through the client experience and team environment alike. He leads by example, showing younger stylists the importance of professionalism, client care and staying grounded in strong fundamentals.

To the team, he is more than a director, he is a mentor, supporter and steady presence. To his clients, he is a trusted stylist and familiar face.
